Conus zaglouli (Abbass, 1977)

 

 

description of HOLOTYPE (G591): Shell large, biconical; spire low, conical, consisting of numerous whorls; spire outline almost straight; exposed part of spire whorl much wider than high; suture nearly superficial; body whorl very large, constituting greater part of shell with posterior bevel below which whorl sides become straight, inclined inwards; aperture narrow, long with opisthocline sinus on posterior bevel; bevel roundedly angular at its edge; outer lip almost straight; inner lip straight, smooth, parallel with outer lip; surface of whorl crossed by orthocline growth striations separated by wider interspaces.

 

dimensions: SH 48 mm, LWH 45 mm, LWW 34 mm, SpA 145°.

 

age, formations and locality: Vindobonian (Tortonian), Upper Geneifa Member, Geneifa.

 

discussion: The present species differs from Conus aff. capitaneus Linnd in MacNeil (1960, PI. 6, Fig. 31) in having a markedly lower and wider shell outline.
